London, Great Britain
This retail project consisted of the conversion of an existing four floor 1960’s commercial building into an open plan men’s fashion boutique and homewares store with showroom and storage facilities on-site. The site is bordered by Sloane Avenue, Ixworth Place and Draycott Avenue in the exclusive Brompton Cross shopping area of South Kensington, London.
The project included the removal of the three existing precast concrete and aluminum facades and a stripping back of the building to its structural skeleton. The proposed facades were made up of six-meter high by three meter wide sheets of glass spanning the ground and first floors. The existing windows on the second floor were covered with panels of a stainless steel mesh fabric.
The two retail space levels are connected by a large helical stair and are defined with grey stone flooring and white walls throughout. The display cases and hanging rails are framed in ebony stained oak.
The project included the introduction of a new mechanical heating and cooling plant as well as the replacement of all the services within the building.
